Green Port Certification Consultancy

As in every field in the world, the increasing environmental awareness in transportation and port management has necessitated the acquisition of green port facilities in Turkey.

The "Green Port/Eco Port" project was initiated within the framework of the protocol signed between the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs (GDMA), the General Directorate of Civil Aviation (GDCA), and the Turkish Standards Institute (TSI) on 16.12.2014. Participation in the Green Harbor project is voluntary.

For the ports to be entitled to receive this document, first of all;

They must have ISO 9001: Quality Management System, ISO 14001: Environmental Management System, OHSAS 18001: Occupational Health and Safety Management System certificates. In addition, they must fulfill the conditions specified in the "Green Port / Eco Port Project Implementation Principles" and "Green Port Sectoral Criteria" guide revised by the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs.

It has been decided that the port facilities, which fulfill the specified conditions and submit them to the administration, are given the "Green Port" certificate and the use of the specially designed logo and announced to the public.

Green Port/Eco Port applications are made in line with the demands of the port operators and are on a voluntary basis.

The following are targeted with the "Green Port/Eco Port" protocol:

  • Establishing an integrated quality management system approach in port facilities,
  • Improving/protecting seawater quality around port facilities,
  • Reducing environmental pollution caused by ship or port operations,
  • Ensuring maximum energy savings and keeping energy efficiency at the highest level in port operations,
  • Reducing greenhouse gas and harmful emissions arising from activities within the borders of the port,
  • Development and implementation of renewable energy projects,
  • Reducing the amount of waste resulting from port operations by recycling waste,
  • Taking the necessary precautions regarding occupational health and safety in port operations and ensuring their continuity.
